Into the impossible
I knew I wanted to write about the high school student who committed suicide
in our round of The Quiet Year, but this prompt inspired me to write about
it from the most impossible perspective: that of Lex's closest friend,
suffering the worst from her death.
Take a break
I forced myself to step away from this story after each entry, whether it be
for a moment or an hour.
Repetition is a form of change
I use the repeating element of journal entries in this story, that change as
the days pass.
Ghost echoes
This one's a bit on the nose, isn't it? The story is about someone being
haunted by the memory of their dead best friend.
Question the heroic approach
The narrator repeatedly ridicules their community's efforts to memorialize
Lex, as she was not at all liked by her community while she was alive.
